AICode is a spec-driven, intent-aware AI coding assistant designed for Visual Studio Code. It aims to help serious developers who are concerned about unmaintainable AI output. AICode allows users to ideate, specify, refine, code, and verify their projects effectively. It ensures that your full codebase remains on your machine, with only necessary context excerpts sent to a private LLM provider. The tool is built on 700,000 lines of TypeScript code, generated and maintained by a solo developer using AICode itself. Users can test it on their legacy codebases, even those that are typically avoided. Key features include structured specifications that are reviewed and approved before coding begins, refine and verify loops that audit both the specifications and generated code for design flaws, and a project map that helps the model understand global architecture, reducing hallucinations. AICode also auto-edits directly to disk, allowing for immediate updates.
